Alexander Tae-Yang Chang

Alexander Tae-Yang Chang is currently a senior majoring in Computer Engineering. His academic interests include electromagnetics, embedded systems, and circuits. After graduating, he plans to pursue a career in electrical and computer engineering, but wants to start a company in the future. On his free time, he likes to work on his car and modify it. He likes to hang out with his mini dachshund and tease his best friend Kristian Soares. He also likes to hang out with his tutor Miki Kojima. He hopes to be successful enough to financially provide for his future family, get married and raise children in either Oahu or Korea. He hopes to build his reputation as a reliable and trustworthy colleague that you can depend on. He does not have a specific interest in a career path but rather strives to be the best in any competitive setting he is placed in. He loves communication, growth of relationships and believes in building deep bonds with all those who give him the opportunity to.

Q: What Inspired You to Join HKN?

He joined HKN because Miki, one of the current officers, inspired him. He also wanted to connect with other students in engineering and be more involved with school events. Before, he has tried to hide his academic interests but after his first bachelors degree, he changed his mindset. He had a lot of regrets for opting to complete online classes and not making any friends throughout his school years. When he decided to come back to Manoa for a second bachelors, he wanted to prioritize relationships and solidify memories together.

Q: Where is your hometown and favorite place on the island?

His hometown is Hawaii Kai and his favorite place on the island is Royal Capitol Plaza. His secondary choice would be his garage because he loves working on his own and his friend’s vehicles, whether if it’s aftermarket upgrades or regular maintenance.

Q: What video game / movie / TV show would you want to live in and why?

His favorite anime to potentially live in is Jujutsu Kaisen. This is due to the possibly having the ability of cursed techniques, using jt for either good or evil. He was never into various anime series until recently so if he needed a default choice to represent his childhood, then it would be Dragon Ball Z or Yugi-Oh. These were the only anime series he was obsessed with, growing up.

Q: What would you like to accomplish the most from your “bucket” list?

He would like to accomplish earning enough financial income to provide for a single income household and raise a family after marriage. He hopes to achieve this goal before he reaches the age of 35. His traditional background shapes his beliefs in having a single income household so that his future wife can rest at home, instead of having to work as well.
